Green Party Nominates Hugh Giordano for 194th State Rep.

Giordano to focus on working families

Monroeville, PA – This weekend, the Green Party of Pennsylvania approved the nomination of Roxborough resident Hugh Giordano to be the party’s contender for State Representative in the 194th District.  The District is currently served by Kathy Manderino who announced her retirement in December.

Girodano is a lifelong resident of the district and a product of Philadelphia’s public schools.  He graduated from Saul High School and later Philadelphia University.  He also has a Master’s Degree from the University of Baltimore.  Said Giordano in his speech before the GPPA Convention, ““I can relate to the issues of the Philadelphia public schools because I witnessed them first hand, such as not having books to take home or the tools to learn properly because the teacher could not get them in the classroom.”

Giordano currently works as a labor organizer for the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 152 in New Jersey.  Hugh’s leadership and honesty have been meaningful in organizing workers because he knows what its like to come from a working class family. Hugh’s mother had to work two jobs to take care of the family as a bank teller and a supermarket cashier. “Seeing my mother struggle to just put food on the table and keep the bills from piling up really made me appreciate her not only as a mother, but as a woman,” said Giordano.  As a result, kitchen table issues such as overtime pay, expanding benefits for working families, and improving public education will be the cornerstones of his campaign.

Paul Kerstetter, also of Roxborough, had this to say about Giordano, “Hugh is not a politician in any ordinary sense of the word.   He is not allied with either of the predominant parties. He is an independent thinker.  He has a strong sense of what is right, and will not be influenced by ‘big money.’”

The 194th District covers the Roxborough, Manayunk, and Overbrook sections of Philadelphia, as well as parts of Montgomery County such as Bala Cynwyd and Narberth.

The Green Party of Pennsylvania is an independent political party that stands in opposition to the two corporate parties.  The Green Party of Pennsylvania stands for grassroots democracy, sustainable economics, nonviolence, and ecology.
