GPOP Election Operations Working (EOW) Group Report #9
March 28, 2016

Hello, GPOP Representative.

I want to be sure that I have you listed to be at the correct polling place for the Primary Election on April 26 to collect signatures on our Green Party Nomination Papers.
I have Ernest at 12-22; Bernadette Marie at 21-3; Beverly at 21-10,17,18; Hillary at 46-10; Charles at 54-1,2,3,5; John at 59-18; Chris at 59-19; and Judy at 61-21. Eric will be working inside the polls as an elected official at 59-21. Matt, I am not sure whether you want to volunteer at your home polling place (13-2,3) or the polls where you volunteered in November 2015 (22-15). Please send me corrections to this list.
Now, I would like to bring you up to date on what has happened since Report #8, which you received on March 14.

Task: Organize Campaign Workers
As an experiment, I tried to connect with some newly registered Green Party members. I got telephone numbers from the Voter Registration Office, and I called seven people who changed their registration to Green during 2015. Every phone number was good, and I got four new email addresses. I sent these people an email welcoming them to the Green Party and inviting them to our Presidential Caucus on April 16.
This seems like a promising avenue to increase Green Party activism. These people already have an interest in the Green Party, and it is an easy way to engage them in our activities. Bernadette Marie and Charles have agreed to help me with phone calls to other new Greens. Political interest is high in a presidential election year, so now is our moment. We need more GPOP Representatives working with us. Please let me know if you will help, and I will round up six phone numbers for you
Here are also some excellent events to collect signatures as the weather warms up (** means new to this list):
** April 2. Kick off Democracy Spring, 10:00 am, at the Liberty Bell, Independence Mall, Sixth and Market Streets in Old City, Philadelphia.
** April 2. Beef & Beer Dance Party to support May Day Festival (see below), 7:00 pm, SEIU Union Hall, 455 North Fifth Street (rear entrance), Philadelphia, PA.
** April 14. Demonstration to Stop the Stadium, 2:00 pm at the Temple University Bell Tower, 1210 West Berks Street, North Philadelphia.
April 26. The Primary Election is absolutely the best place for you to collect signatures because it is the most concentrated group of registered voters. Please make time to volunteer at your neighborhood polling place between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm. There will be a good turnout because of the presidential sweepstakes, and every single voter is permitted to sign your nomination paper. If they ask, please explain that they do not have to be a Green Party member to sign.
May 1. The May Day Festival in Clark Park, 43rd Street and Baltimore Avenue, usually has a good turnout. We will have a Green Party table which you can use as a base. Bring your children or grandchildren because the playground there is excellent.
May 1. Chestnut Hill Home and Garden Festival, is not as good as the May Day Festival, but it might be more convenient for you. There will be many Montgomery County voters, so be sure that you have Montgomery County nomination papers with you. If you need more petitions, please contact me the week before, because I will be in Clark Park on 5/1.
May 7. Mount Airy Day is always a good place to collect signatures, and it is fun for the whole family: live music on two stages, a Kid Zone, and plenty of vendors. The Green Party will have a table which you can use as a base.
Please let us know of street festivals in your neighborhood.

Task: Build an Infrastructure to Win Elections
The Green Party of the U.S. held a Media Workshop Conference Call on March 22 for people who wanted to learn more about building the Green Party’s presence in the local media. We are still looking for a GPOP Representative who wants to learn about media work. Let’s have a GPOP Representative on the next conference call. Will you do it?
In addition to media work, we still need volunteers to help us with website construction, email list, and fundraising. Can you help with any of these projects? Do you have any of the required skills? If not, are you ready to learn these skills?

Task: Recruit Green Party Candidates
The Green Party EOW Group has begun our search for people to run for office next year. During 2017, we will need candidates for the following offices: Philadelphia District Attorney and Philadelphia Controller. These are each four-year terms, and candidates must be at least 25-years old and must have been a resident of Philadelphia for at least one year. Candidates for District Attorney must have been a lawyer for at least two years. There will also be judicial elections. Please let me know, if you know anyone who is interested.
Please respond to this email and tell me what you will do to help us build the Green Party.

It is Good to be Green,
Chris Robinson, 215-843-4256
Membership Secretary
Green Party of Philadelphia

PS: Members of the GPOP EOW Group are called “GPOP Representatives.” According to a motion approved by the GPOP membership on September 30, 2015, the EOW Group has three tasks: “recruiting Green Party candidates who will campaign for office; organizing people to work on those campaigns; and building an infrastructure that will be able to win electoral campaigns.”
