Welcome to Northern Liberties by Vivek Ananthan, GPOP Chair. Vivek spoke about how much the neighborhood has changed for the better since he moved there 15 years ago.

1st Anniversary of Tahrir Square , January 25, Celebrate the Egyptian Revolution and the beginning of the Occupy Movement, 5:00 pm, Love Park , 15th Street and Benjamin Franklin Parkway , Philadelphia . No one at the meeting volunteered to attend this event with Chris.

End the War for Oil


At Green Night Out on January 14, Toby Jones, Assistant Professor of History at Rutgers University, discussed “The Long War:
Oil and U.S. Power in the Middle East.”
Jones explained to the diners that the U.S. War for Oil dates back to Democratic President James Carter’s declaration of the Carter
Doctrine in1980. He told of the creation of Pentagon’s Central Command, its military occupation of Afghanistan in 2001 and its
occupation of Iraq in 2003. According to Jones, this has been one long war, not a series of military conflicts. (more…)

Greens to Meet: 2012 Nominations01.17.12

Green Party and Occupy Philly
Green Party members will decide how GPOP should relate to Occupy Philly. Two proposals will be presented (one by Vivek Ananthan, another by Chris Robinson). GPOP members will decide which approach is best for the Green Party and Occupy Philly.

Endorsement of Green Party Candidates
Meet the Greens who want to run for office in 2012. Offices under contention include all PA House of Representative and some PA Senate seats. Green Party members will then decide whether or not to endorse these candidates.

Nominations for Green Party City Committee
There are seven members on the Green Party City Committee. Any Green Party member registered to vote in Philadelphia may self-nominate for City Committee membership. Election of officers will take place at the February GPOP General Membership Meeting.

This meeting is open to the public with no admission charge. A free-will offering will be accepted. If you are not able to attend, please send your check or money order payable to “GPOP” to

Greens Respond To Nutter’s 2nd Inaugural Speech01.13.12

The Green Party of Philadelphia (GPOP, is not impressed with Mayor Michael Nutter’s second inaugural speech which was delivered at the Academy of Music on January 2, 2012.

“This speech was long on platitudes and short on plans,” said Chris Robinson, GPOP City Committee member from Ward 59 ( Germantown ). “I am still waiting for Nutter to fulfill the promises he made in his first inaugural four years ago.” (more…)
