Green Night Out, on April 14, welcomed Harris Daniels, press secretary for Diop Olugbala’s Mayor Campaign, www.diop2011.com, who led a discussion of the strategy of an independent, revolutionary, mayoral candidate in Philadelphia . Attendees (12): Vivek Ananthan, Chris Robinson, Carol McLean, Dave Butler, Christina Pié, Miranda Spencer, Dave Houck, Bernadette Cronin, Alex Gillette, Ernest Schulte, Eric Hamell, Esther Croft.

Welcome. The meeting was facilitated by Chris Robinson. Chris noted that the meeting lacked a quorum, as we had only 12 attendees. Miranda Spencer welcomed the gathering to Chestnut Hill Meeting House.

Motions to amend the agenda. Dave Butler asked to discuss the possibility of allowing members to participate in meetings remotely. (more…)

The Green Party of Phila (GPOP), www.gpop.org, has scheduled a presidential caucus at 7:00pm sharp on Thursday, April 26, at the Buzz Café, 1800 North Howard Street in Kensington.

Every voter who is a registered Green Party member in Pennsylvania is invited to participate in the Green Party Presidential Caucus.

There are two presidential candidates who are seeking the Green Party nomination: actress Roseanne Barr and Dr. Jill Stein, www.gp.org/2012/candidates. Other candidates may be nominated during the presidential caucus. Green Party voters may also choose “no candidate” or “uncommitted.”

Dr. Jill Stein is a physician, long-time teacher of internal medicine, and pioneering environmental-health advocate. At Green Night Out on March 10, History Professor Heather Thompson of Temple University discussed “Why Mass Incarceration Matters.” Speaking in Philadelphia ‘s Chinatown, Thompson explained to the gathered diners that “there are now more black men in Detroit ‘s prisons than there are black men working in the auto industry. There are now more black men in the U.S. prison system than there were black men in slavery before the Civil War.”
