GPOP NOMINATES SLATE OF LOCAL CANDIDATES FOR STATE AND FEDERAL OFFICES
At last Monday's general meeting, Christina Valente was nominated for Lt. Governor of Pennsylvania and Mike Rosenberg was nominated as our candidate for the state legislature in the 188th District (currently served by Rep. Jim Roebuck).  They join candidates nominated at the January meeting, Dave Baker for US Congress in the 2nd District (challenging Rep. Chaka Fattah) and Traci Confer, currently running in the special election to fill the vacant seat for the 174th State Legislative District, will also run for the same seat in the general election in November.  All nominees for these state offices must be approved by the Green Party of Pennsylvania at the state convention happening this weekend in Wilkes-Barre.  Members present also instructed our convention delegation to support approving the nomination of Marakay Rogers for Governor and Carl Romanelli for US Senate at the top of the ticket.

NEW CITY COMMITTEE FOR 2006 ELECTED
City Committee members Alex Gillett (treasurer) and Michele Grant (at-large) were elected to another term.  They are joined by Gene Miller (membership secretary), Christina Valente (recording secretary), Matt Sullivan (at-large) and Jonathan Zellars (at-large).  The position of chair remains vacant until a candidate steps forward.

BALLOT ACCESS PETITION DRIVE COMMENCES 7 MARCH
Hillary and Alex announced that the petition drive to put our candidates on the ballot in November will start with a special training session and petition distribution at the March meet-up, 7:00 PM at Joe Café, 11th and Walnut.  Our candidates for state-wide office require 67,000 signatures to gain access to the ballot this election cycle, so everyone's effort is needed to make this a success.  Our status as a minor party is at stake.

PETITIONING BEFORE THE 174th DISTRICT SPECIAL ELECTION 11-12 MARCH
The special election in the 174th district on March 14 presents a great opportunity to find registered voters and gather petition signatures while supporting Traci Confer's candidacy.  Watch the GPOP calendar for details on organized petitioning March 11 and 12.

BY-LAWS AMMENDED
For the second consecutive meeting, a quorum approved two changes to the GPOP by-laws.  The first changes the definition of quorum from 10 members not on the city committee to any 14 members, including city committee members.  The second changes the rules for membership for official purposes (such as electing the city committee), allowing only people registered with the county election board as Green Party members to vote.  This brings GPOP by-laws into agreement with recommendations from the Green Party of Pennsylvania and state law.  The amendments are effective immediately.

2006 BUDGET PASSED
The budget proposed by our treasurer Alex was passed by consensus.  Details will be posted soon.

NEXT MEETING: 27 March, 6:30 PM, Ethical Society, Rittenhouse Sq.
NEXT CITY COMMITTEE MEETING: 27 February, 6:45 PM at Christina's house.
