BRIAN RUDNICK FILES NOMINATION PAPERS
Green Party Candidate to face Donna Reed Miller in November
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Early Monday morning community activist, educator and attorney Brian Rudnick filed with the Philadelphia County Board of Elections to run for the 8th District City Council seat in the General Election on November 6, 2007. Rudnick, a Green Party candidate, submitted the signatures of 900 registered voters who live in the 8th District, comprising Germantown, Mount Airy, Chestnut Hill and parts of North Philadelphia. His campaign committee announced that it is continuing to collect additional signatures both to acquaint the community better with the values and goals of the Green Party, which unsuccessfully ran a candidate for the 8th District in the 2003 election, and to insure Rudnick's placement on the ballot this November.
"It's time to end the Democratic Party monopoly of Philadelphia government. It breeds corruption. Based on the number of former council members indicted or sent to jail, perhaps the next Mayor should, if elected, take his "stop and frisk" program to City Hall to detect illegally pocketed cash. I plan to bring Green Party values of governmental transparency, social justice and environmental activism to northwest Philadelphia as the next representative of the 8th District," declared Rudnick.
Campaign Chairman Chris Robinson noted that despite all of the fanfare associated with yesterday's Primary Election, voter apathy is still quite visible. "Only 30% of eligible voters in the 8th District came to the polls," said Robinson, "and of those only 30% voted for Donna Miller" referring to the incumbent councilwoman who narrowly beat three separate challengers. "If we can get more than one-ninth of the District to support Brian, we'll be in good shape."
